LOS ANGELES, CA — As Marvel Studios continues to reshape its release slate, including uncertainty surrounding its long-awaited Blade feature, award-winning independent filmmaker Marcus Nel-Jamal Hamm is taking a different approach: creating his own interconnected superhero universe centered on diversity, original storytelling, and independent filmmaking.
Rather than waiting for Hollywood, Hamm has expanded the world introduced in Triggered 3.0: The Final Cut, assembling a cast and characters that celebrate representation across race, culture, and backgrounds. The project features Hamm as the iconic vampire hunter Blade, alongside Lucas Bishop and Shard Bishop, an Afro-Latino Wolverine portrayed by Fernando Marrero, and Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts in a pivotal role.
The independent production also showcases an ensemble cast that includes Bridggett Bess, Robert Dobson, Siri Hull, Isis Miette, and others, blending comic book action with original mythology while paying tribute to the passionate fan community that has supported superhero storytelling for decades.
"Fans have been waiting years to see certain heroes return to the big screen," said Marcus Nel-Jamal Hamm. "Independent filmmakers don't have to wait for permission to tell exciting stories. We can create films that celebrate these characters, introduce new heroes, and reflect the diversity of the audiences who love them."
Hamm's vision extends beyond a single film. He is developing an expanding slate of interconnected projects featuring original heroes and reinterpretations inspired by comic book storytelling, proving that ambitious superhero filmmaking can thrive outside the traditional studio system.
Already recognized on the festival circuit, Hamm continues to build momentum with collaborations involving respected industry veterans, including Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts, while creating opportunities for performers from a wide range of backgrounds.
With Triggered 3.0: The Final Cut and future projects currently in development, Hamm hopes to demonstrate that independent creators can build compelling cinematic universes driven by passion, imagination, and inclusive storytelling.

‘Triggered 3.0: The Final Cut’ Premieres in Santa Monica; Eric Roberts Receives Lifetime Achievement Honor
EXCLUSIVE: Urban Renaissance Entertainment unveiled Triggered 3.0: The Final Cut at a private premiere event April 19 at the Illusion Magic Lounge in Santa Monica, where veteran actor Eric Roberts was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award ahead of the screening.
The honor was presented by co-star Fernando Marrero, recognizing Roberts’ prolific career spanning decades across film and television. Roberts attended alongside Eliza Roberts, with the tribute serving as a highlight of the evening.
“Triggered 3.0, The Final Cut is so much fun to watch — I know you’re going to enjoy it. It’s going to be spooky, it’s going to be fun,” Roberts said at the event.
The superhero action thriller stars Roberts and Marrero and is produced, written by and co-stars Marcus Nel-Jamal Hamm, who underscored the film’s real-world inspiration.
“Triggered revolves around the real life story of Steven James Tingus. Steven had a rare form of muscular dystrophy and wanted to cure himself. In this film, we allow our dreams and our imagination to make that dream a reality,” Hamm said.
The ensemble cast includes Joshua Longfellow Wright, Robert Dobson, Siri Hull, Masashi Ishizuka, Katrina Chiovon, Johnse Allende Jr., Sady Diallo, Martin Torolira and Derek Ocampo. Also in attendance were voiceover artist Shawn Woodward and composer/sound designer John Capo.
The invite-only event drew approximately 60 attendees, including cast, crew, and invited guests. Following the screening, the filmmakers and cast participated in a Q&A session discussing the film’s creative direction and production journey. The evening concluded with a reception where cast members were presented with commemorative Triggered 3.0 apparel.
The event was hosted by Brittany S. Mason of Lavalliere Haus.
Triggered 3.0: The Final Cut is expected to head to the festival circuit this summer as Urban Renaissance Entertainment continues to expand its presence in the independent action space.
